The horrid and cold weather today reminded me of 2 things in Melbourne - how we braved the rain in windy Melbourne just to get food off a mobile food truck and how comforting the warm gumbo with rice was in the cold.

Food trucks might be the up and coming thing in Sydney but the peeps in Melbourne have been at it for a while. Gumbo Kitchen serves up New Orleans cuisine, a cuisine which I believe Australia does not have much of and one that certainly piqued my interest. Tracking them down via FB or Twitter was easy. What made the actual trip to get the food tough was the dreadful rain and that we were 1.5 hrs away from dinner. But it was worth it. The Chicken and Smoked Sausage Gumbo was not only tasty, it was the perfect meal for the imperfect weather. What's not to like about a bowl of hot soup that's almost like a hearty stew, a scoop of rice and a little bit of spice. What made it better was that I was standing outside a liquor store and the box of soup warmed my hands as it did my tummy.

The Fried Shrimp Po' Boy had a general serving of shrimp that had a crisp coating. The sauce in the sandwich was tasty but I was cautious not to have too much due to the impending dinner.

It's chilly outside in Sydney today. The difference is, we ain't got gumbo to save the day. Not in Sydney anyway.
